Bielefeld doesn’t exist? An iconic German inside joke, but bucky for all of us, it does exist. Otherwise not only STAYERY, but even brands like Dr. Oetker would’ve mysteriously vanished from the face of the earth.
What most people don’t know: this city in East Westphalia has a lot more going on than a few world-famous names. It’s home to companies that play a massive role globally, even though almost no one has heard of them. A total of 19 so-called Hidden Champions are tucked away in Bielefeld. And it’s exactly this wonderfully underestimated mix of understatement and global success that inspired the unique design concept of STAYERY Bielefeld.
A PLACE TO B(I)E.
The colorful tiles and bricks in the bar area are inspired by the classic facades of historic production sites that shaped this powerhouse of a region.
And if you take a closer look, you’ll of course spot subtle nods to that already-mentioned food company that’s been cooking up global success for decades. Why does it fit us so well?
Because half-baked has never been our style.
HIDING IN PLAIN SIGHT.
No, that hard-to-miss ladies’ bike isn’t hanging from the ceiling by accident. Founded in 1874, Göricke was once one of Germany’s most important bicycle manufacturers, which makes this piece a very special kind of art installation.
Semi-transparent linen-look curtains from JAB Anstoetz, one of the region’s long-standing textile heavyweights, add warmth to the large, open space without stealing the spotlight from the loft’s iconic design objects.
